Three GoVisit place cards leading to a green Popularity Index 0–100% badge.

Popularity Index

The Popularity Index shows the impact of a place's AI Business Profile in practice: how often people and agents discover the place, use its profile, ask its Admin assistant a question, interact with it through WebMCP, or ask about booking. It is GoVisit's relative 0–100% score for the attention and useful interaction a place earns across these surfaces.

The score represents the place's position in the normal distribution of popularity across all places listed on GoVisit. The distribution is centered around 50%, so most places sit near the middle. GoVisit recalculates the score daily, so it reflects recent activity rather than a permanent label.

What the index shows

Because the score is relative, a change in one place's activity can affect the context around every other place. A score near 50% is ordinary for the distribution, while a score farther above or below 50% marks a more unusual position within it.

The signals behind the score

The Popularity Index conceptually reflects four kinds of activity:

  • Google Search discovery: unique visitor page views that arrive through Google Search.
  • Admin assistant conversations: messages visitors exchange with the place's Admin assistant on the place page, whether the conversation uses the agent-to-agent (A2A) protocol or the built-in chat.
  • WebMCP interactions: tool interactions with the place's profile served by the GoVisit AI Business Profile page through WebMCP.
  • Commercial-intent inquiries: questions about availability, pricing, booking conditions, or similar topics that indicate potential to drive a direct booking from an agent to the place.

These signals describe different stages of attention. A page view shows that a place was found. A conversation shows that the visitor needed more context. A commercial question shows that the place may be entering a decision about where to stay, eat, or visit.

The score is a summary signal, not a promise that every interaction has the same weight. GoVisit may refine the calculation as its discovery and agent surfaces evolve.

Improve the profile and help it get found

The Profile Quality Index measures how complete, accurate, fresh, and well-supported the profile is. GoVisit promotes and surfaces places with stronger profile quality, so improving it can increase Popularity over time.

Start with the information agents and visitors need to make a confident comparison. Keep the profile complete and current, and make important claims easy to verify with clear evidence and provenance.

To extend that reach, reference your AI Business Profile online in the same places where you reference your brand website. A clear link or mention gives people and agents another path to the information you maintain on GoVisit.

Then watch the questions people ask. Repeated questions can show where the profile needs more detail. Commercial questions can show which practical information matters when a visitor moves closer to a decision.

What the index does not mean

The Popularity Index is not a guest-review score, a ranking that can be purchased, or a measure of hospitality on its own. It does not describe every audience a place reaches, and it cannot guarantee that attention will become a booking.

A place can have a modest score because it serves a narrow audience or because its profile is new. Another place can attract many views without being the right answer for a particular traveler. Relevance and timing still matter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Popularity Index a guest rating?

No. It measures how much useful attention and interaction a place earns across GoVisit discovery and engagement surfaces. It is not a review score or a judgment of hospitality.

What affects the Popularity Index?

The index reflects unique visitor page views from Google Search, messages exchanged with the place's Admin assistant, WebMCP tool interactions with the profile, and commercial-intent inquiries that may lead to direct bookings.

What does 50% mean on the Popularity Index?

The score is relative to the normal distribution of popularity across all places listed on GoVisit. The distribution is centered around 50%, so most places are near the middle; a higher or lower score shows a place's relative position, not an absolute number of visitors.

How often is the Popularity Index recalculated?

GoVisit recalculates the score daily, so it reflects recent activity rather than a permanent label.

How can I influence the Popularity Index?

Improve the place's Profile Quality Index by keeping its information detailed, accurate, fresh, and supported by clear evidence and provenance. Better information gives agents more confidence that the place fits a traveler's intent.

Does a high Popularity Index guarantee bookings?

No. It is a signal of attention and useful interaction, not a promise of bookings, recommendations, or revenue. Relevance, traveler intent, availability, and booking conditions still matter.
