Overview
Located at Klárov in Prague, the Winged Lion Memorial is a bronze tribute to the 2,500 Czechoslovak airmen who served in the British Royal Air Force during World War II. Unveiled in 2014 by Sir Nicholas Soames, the monument features a two-meter-high bronze lion created by British sculptor Colin Spofforth. The sculpture rests on a plinth finished with riveted metal plates that mimic the fuselage of period aircraft, and the pedestal's circular design honors the Czech Air Force insignia. In 2018, the memorial was updated to include the names of every Czechoslovak pilot who served with the RAF, and the site now includes benches and information panels, making it an accessible place for quiet reflection on the bravery shown during the Battle of Britain.
