Overview
St. Francis of Assisi Church serves as a striking example of early Baroque architecture, situated at the entrance to the Old Town. Managed by the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star, the current building was consecrated in 1688 and features a massive central cupola visible from the bridge area. Inside, visitors are met with an impressive display of artistic skill, notably the nearly 41-meter high dome showcasing V. V. Reiner’s fresco of the Last Judgment. The space also houses the second oldest organ in Prague, built in 1702, which continues to be featured during regular religious music concerts. With frescoes of the four evangelists, oil paintings of the church fathers on pillars, and intricate stuccowork, the interior offers a concentrated look at late 17th-century craftsmanship.
