Přehled
The Cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius at Resslova 9a is a significant historical site that serves both as an active Orthodox cathedral and a poignant memorial. Originally constructed as a Baroque church between 1730 and 1736 under the guidance of Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer and Pavel Ignác Bayer, the building displays impressive stucco work by Michal Ignác Palliardi and frescoes by Karel Schöpf. Beyond its architectural value, the church is most notably recognized as the final refuge for the Czechoslovak paratroopers who carried out the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in 1942. Today, visitors can explore the crypt where these individuals made their last stand, honoring their memory through the dedicated exhibition on the Heydrichiad. It is a place that offers deep insight into the wartime history of the city while showcasing enduring Baroque design.
