Overview
The American Bar, situated in the basement of the Municipal House, represents a vital piece of Prague history as the oldest bar in the city and the second oldest in Europe. First established in 1912, the space maintains a striking Art Nouveau aesthetic, characterized by walls lined with black Rako tiles, white grout, and brass-framed folk paintings by Mikoláš Aleš. Guests are seated in black leather armchairs, surrounded by vaulted ceilings illuminated by a notable heron-motif chandelier designed by František Křižík. Today, under the management of the Vyšehrad 2000 group, it provides a unique opportunity to enjoy a high-standard cocktail experience in a room that historically served as a space for public discourse regarding the formation of a democratic republic.
