Vysehradsky hrbitov

Vysehrad Cemetery, located beside the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, acts as a primary national pantheon for the Czech Republic. It is a resting place for over 600 notable figures including Antonin Dvorak, Karel Capek, and Alphonse Mucha. Established as a national burial ground in the 1870s, the current design reflects 19th-century aesthetic sensibilities through marble tombs and Italian-style arcades. The focal point of the site is the Slavin tomb, a monumental collective monument commissioned by the Svatobor association to honor the country’s most influential personages. Visitors can walk the main path through these historic arcades to view the allegorical statues and read the inscriptions that memorialize the giants of Czech culture, offering a direct link to the nation's past.
