Přehled
The Wallenstein Garden is a significant piece of early Baroque landscape design in Prague, acting as the quiet grounds for the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Spanning over 14,000 square metres, it ranks as the second-largest public garden in the city center. Visitors enter a space defined by rigid, formal box-tree geometry and mature shade trees. The highlight for many is the massive seventeenth-century sala terrena, an open architectural space once used for elite garden viewing. Scattered throughout the grounds, one finds curious features like the man-made stalactite wall, which hides carved animal shapes, and a series of classical sculptures including Hercules and Venus. The garden is equally famous for its living exhibits, notably the free-roaming peacocks and the resident Eurasian eagle-owls housed in their own aviary. The ornamental pond, filled with diverse fish including ornamental Koi, rounds out an environment that feels disconnected from the bustle of the nearby Malá Strana streets.
