Přehled
Svatý Apolinář is a significant historic church situated on the Větrov hill in the Nové Město district of Prague. Originally established by Emperor Charles IV in the mid-14th century, the structure serves as a pivotal point in the historic cross of religious foundations designed by the monarch. The church is easily identified by its prominent octagonal Gothic tower, which serves as a landmark for the area. While the architecture retains its Gothic essence, it has been altered over time by two distinct phases of Baroque reconstruction and later 19th-century regotization efforts. Inside, visitors can view valuable artistic contributions, most notably the Baroque painting of Our Lady of Karlov by Jan Jiří Heinsch. Today, the church maintains its spiritual role as an active center for the local Vietnamese Catholic parish, offering regular services. It provides a unique, quiet experience for those looking to explore the deeper historical and cultural layers of Prague beyond the main tourist routes.
