Karlovo náměstí

Karlovo náměstí remains an essential waypoint for any visitor in Prague. Established by Charles IV in 1348, it functions today as a large public park that blends deep historical significance with everyday city life. The square is anchored by major buildings, including the New Town Hall and the historic Faust House, while the park itself acts as an outdoor museum featuring seven distinct statues. Visitors can walk the grounds to see the 1698 Baroque fountain and the oldest plane tree in the square, which dates back to the late 19th-century landscaping work of Bedřich Wünscher. Although split by busy roads, the park remains a cohesive, tree-filled space that provides a tangible link to the founding of Prague's New Town.
