Rotunda sv. Longina

The Rotunda of St Longin, located at Na Rybníčku 1286/1, is a significant site for those interested in the layers of Prague history. Built in the early 12th century, it is the second oldest of the three preserved Romanesque rotundas in the city. The structure is famously small and features a distinctive cylindrical shape with a cupola and apse. Visitors may be interested to learn that it was originally dedicated to St. Stephen before the dedication changed in the 14th century to Saint Longinus, whose remains were brought to Prague by Charles IV. The site itself has a varied history, having functioned as a parish chapel for the ancient Rybník settlement, and having served as a warehouse under Joseph II before its major repair in the early 20th century. Today, it serves the Greek Catholic Church, and access for interior viewing must be arranged in advance.
