Přehled
Kostel sv. Václava is a landmark Constructivist building in Prague-Vršovice, meticulously designed by the architect Josef Gočár between 1929 and 1930. The structure is famous for its creative use of the sloping terrain, which informed its unique stepped roofline and natural illumination strategy. Visitors can see the eighty-meter high white belfry from across the city, acting like a beacon. The interior is refreshingly simple and light, featuring a three-aisle reinforced concrete skeleton, original relief sculptures by Čeněk Vosmík, and a striking stained-glass window by Josef Kaplický. Beyond its function as a house of worship, the space serves as an important concert hall with seating for four hundred guests. It remains a definitive stop for anyone documenting the history of Czech interwar architectural progress.
