Cihelná brána

Cihelná brána stands as a significant piece of 19th-century military architecture within the historic Vyšehrad fortress in Prague. Designed by engineer Johann Weiss and completed in 1841, the Empire-style structure replaced older medieval entrance points to better serve the needs of a modernizing fortress. Historically, the gate and its adjacent spaces included guardhouses and quarters for military personnel, and even served as civil storage for goods like petroleum in later years. Today, the gate acts as an essential gateway for visitors, hosting the site's primary information center. It is the designated starting location for all guided tours leading into the intricate underground casemates and the massive Gorlice hall, providing both historical context and practical access for those exploring the fortress walls.
