Leopoldova brána

Leopoldova brána serves as a significant portal to the inner Vyšehrad fortress. Designed in the early Baroque style, this impressive structure features architecture attributed to Carlo Lurago. Construction of the gate spanned nearly two decades, lasting from 1653 to 1672. Although it was originally planned as part of a grand fortification system intended to protect the city, the gate was never put to a military test. Over time, its role transitioned, particularly after the mid-19th century when it facilitated the passage of a road connecting the New Town to Pankrác. Today, it stands as a testament to the layered history of the Vyšehrad citadel, accessible to any visitor walking through the historic fortress walls.
