Zlatá ulička

Golden Lane is a deeply historical alley located at Prague Castle, born from the construction of northern fortifications in the late 15th century. It features a unique collection of tiny, colorful houses that served various residents ranging from castle archers and goldsmiths to the famed writer Franz Kafka. Throughout its 500-year existence, the lane transitioned from a functional space to a historical exhibit showcasing living conditions from the 16th century, the era of World War I, and beyond. Notable features include house number 13, which shows the Renaissance-era lifestyle of an archer, and house number 12, which houses a film history exhibition and provides access to the Daliborka artillery prison tower. The iconic colorful facades visible today are a product of 1950s design choices by artist Jiří Trnka, preserving the site's character while highlighting its heritage as the final vestige of small-scale housing at the castle.
