Přehled
The Malostranské mostecké věže serve as the historic entrance to the Lesser Town from Charles Bridge, consisting of two distinct towers built in different eras. The smaller tower is a Romanesque structure dating back to the 12th century, originally constructed from opuka stone, while the taller tower is a Gothic addition commissioned by George of Poděbrady after 1464. The two structures are connected by a gate built after 1411, which is decorated with the heraldry of the lands held by Wenceslas IV, including the Bohemian lion and Moravian eagle. Visitors can climb to the 26-meter-high gallery of the Gothic tower to enjoy elevated views of the Vltava River and the historic metropolis, while the basement of the smaller tower retains historical engravings from the period when it functioned as a defensive lookout.
