Masarykovo nádraží

Masarykovo nádraží stands as a significant landmark in Prague, holding the distinction of being the city's oldest railway station. Opened in 1845, it served as a primary gateway for travel, originally connecting to Olomouc and later expanding to routes as far as Dresden. Visitors can still appreciate the original Empire architecture, characterized by its Neo-Renaissance elements and Classicism style, which has been preserved despite necessary modern upgrades. The station was historically built with tracks running through the city walls, a unique engineering detail of the mid-19th century. Inside, the station continues to offer glimpses into the past, most notably through the Masaryk Lounge, which features a beamed ceiling, a carved fireplace, and commemorative sculptures honoring Jan Perner and T.G. Masaryk. Today, it remains a bustling, functional terminus for regional and suburban commuters.
