Katedrální chrám sv. Vavřince na Petříně, Praha

Explore the baroque St. Lawrence Cathedral on Petřín Hill, featuring an 18th-century pilgrimage site, stations of the cross, and unique chapel architecture.

Přehled

Located in Petřínské sady near the mirror maze, this single-aisle baroque church holds a significant place in the history of Czech pilgrimage sites. Reconstructed between 1739 and 1745 to designs by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer and built by Jan Ignác Palliardi, the site functions as a place of historical and spiritual interest. Visitors can explore the 14 stations of the cross, the Holy Sepulchre chapel, and the Calvary chapel. The building is characterized by three towers, including a central tower with a dome. The interior, adjusted according to architect Jiří Pelcl, features a prominent altar painting of the Martyrdom of St. Lawrence by the Burgundian artist Jean Claude Monnot. Since 1995, the church has served as a cathedral for the Old Catholic Church.
