Přehled
Petschkův palác is a monumentally scaled Neoclassical structure that represents a significant chapter in Prague's twentieth-century history. Originally commissioned by banker Julius Petschek and constructed between 1923 and 1929, the building served as a pinnacle of early twentieth-century corporate architecture, featuring cutting-edge amenities like internal telephone communication and pneumatic mail. Following the German occupation in 1939, the building was seized by the Gestapo and became a site of interrogation and torment for thousands of individuals. Today, the basement area serves as a permanent memorial, maintaining the memory of those who resisted the occupation. A bronze memorial plaque and figure on the building's exterior exterior serve as a reminder of the sacrifice made by those who fought for the country's freedom.
